Shamgar.
You'll find him mentioned just twice in the Bible. He was the third judge of Israel and his accomplishments are summed up in this single verse:
".......Shamgar the son of Anath, which slew of the Philistines six hundred men with an ox goad: and he also delivered Israel."
(Judges 3:31)
This passage wastes no time in getting right to the point - much as I imagine Shamgar to have been. A man of few words, who carried a big stick (or ox goad, rather).
What can we learn from his example, and how can we apply it where we find ourselves today? The following sermon does a great job in expounding this for us:
"The Three Success Secrets of Shamgar" (Brian Atwood)
https://www.sermoncentral.com/sermons/print?sermonId=73593
As outlined in the above message, the "three success secrets of Shamgar" are:
1) Start where you are
2) Use what you have
3) Do what you can
Certainly takes away all of the excuses for inaction doesn't it?
We cannot succeed if we do not act - so get started.
We will never be operating under perfect conditions - so press forward with what you have.
We can't do it all, but we can do something - so get to it.
Whether it be a physical battle, or a spiritual one - we serve a God that promises to supply all that we need to accomplish His will. He will never leave us. He will never fail!
"Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest."
(Joshua 1:9)
Be like Shamgar.......pick up your ox goad and fight!
